Oregon Breeding Bird Atlas
Hexagon/square observations window
The hexagon observation window shows the observations
found in the hexagon and square.
In the left column,
you find the species for which
the observation was made. Where no species is shown, it is
a continuation of the observations for the species shown above.
The next column shows the breeding codes. (See
Evidence of breeding in the Intro section.) If there are
two codes found (for example X/X or P/X), then the first code
is for the hexagon and the second code is for the square. The P/X shows
two observations, one of X in the square and the other of
P in the hexagon, but outside the square. This is because observations
are always upgraded to the highest level of confirmation. Similarly, the
single observation (for example NY) indicates a nest with young was found
in the hexagon but the species was not observed in the square.
The X/X shows that the bird was observed in the square; it is
possible it was observed separately in the hexagon, but this
information in not recorded.
The dates show either the year or the actual date of the observation,
if it was reported by the observer. The date might also be blank if
no date was recorded.
If the name of the observer was reported, it is given.
From here you may navigate to the
statewide hexagon summary maps, to the map of the hexagon, or to a
list of species that might be found here, but were not.
The "Field observations" link brings you back here from another view
of the hexagon.
